Christians, IF god does not exist, would man invent him?

  • There is no doubt in my mind that Jesus Christ is the Truth. And I don't need tangible proof to believe that God exists.

Paraphrasing the great English preacher Joseph Parker, I think that whoever believes that God exists and that Christianity is the Truth has all history, etymology and philosophy on their side. But my conviction is not founded upon the construction of a phrase, or the interpretation of the Bible. I rely on Jesus's teaching and compassion. When Jesus touched my soul into life, it's all I needed. I believe in Him because "once I was blind and now I see". Our heart is sometimes better interpreter than the understanding. What better proof is needed? He has redeemed my life from destruction.

    I answered your question:
God exists - I don't need to "invent" Him. He created me!

  • If your wife stopped beating you would you beat yourself?

  • They would make themselves "god". But God is real.

  • like the universe,God just is.

  • What you are really doing is being radically sceptical about the ability of the mind to find truth. Do you mean that someone's mind could not tell whether the existence of God followed from say any of the 5 ways of St Thomas Aquinas (which go back to Plato and Aristotle). Yes, that is what you are saying. If there is a supreme being we should be able to use our minds to ascertain His Existence, and if there is not, that too.

  • "where are we? why are we here?"

some guy - "if i pretend to know the answer, ill be powerful!"

  • As you can see in any culture and tribe, when people lack specific direction, their conscience tells them there is some higher being that must be acknowledged.
With lack of special revelation, this "higher being" winds up being the sun, or the elements, you get the idea.
The God of Christianity is the God that specially revealed himself in multiple different ways - most recently, through a simple book. This is called "special revelation" whereas nature by itself is "general revelation."
There's enough information in the world for otherwise ignorant people to know that there is A God. But God's special revelation of Himself is what identifies Him for us.
Man-made deities tend to fade out over the millennia as history shows. However, the Judeao/Christian God has had believers for approximately 6000 years (5769 according to Jews).
Quite frankly, if there were no God, I'm convinced we wouldn't be here to have this discussion, much less invent false gods.

  • If there was no 1 God. There would be many gods.

  • Yes. I have always said if humans did make it up, it is because of the fear of death and to explain the things they didnt understand. How many people though and still think mental illness is demon possesion because of religion? Today we have the science and medical knowledge and tools to know it is. Back then, they didnt. Everyone is scared of death and what gives a lot of people comfort is that there is something after it. I believe in God, BUT......

  • it's a shame people don't understand hypotheticals

    this is an excellent question
and I wish more Christians would have seriously answered it

    I'm an atheist...So obviously I think that's what happened
sorry I don't fit the criteria you were looking for

  • NASA's working on it...

  • Some say so. But God does exist so there is no need to invent HIM.

  • The question should be if man did not exist would God still invent him!

  • They already did.........
all religions were invented my man

  • Hypothetical questions like these are useless...and belong in philosophy.

  • Haven't we already made our own?

  • no.

Man, in its natural state and emotion, would rather promote its own ego than make this prediction.

You can see it in some atheists.

  • God is man-made, but then I am atheist.

  • I thought that was exactly what DID happen......

    .

  • I think that's already happened !

  • No, because man would not exist.
